IT ALL STARTED WITH SAWYER CULBERSON
It all began with Sawyer Culberson, whose life and struggles revealed the devastating impact of punitive systems and unmet support for young people. Sawyer's passing from a fentanyl poisoning underscored the urgent need for prevention, care, and community-based solutions. What started as personal loss became a commitment to ensure other young people are not left without support or opportunity.
Save the Kids was formed to challenge systems that criminalize vulnerability instead of addressing root causes. Our work prioritizes early intervention, education, workforce pathways, and family-centered support.
Guided by lived experience, we collaborate with communities to interrupt cycles of harm before they become tragedy. Sawyer's legacy lives on through a mission rooted in compassion, justice, and lasting change.
The Foundation of Our Work
We work every single day to transform institutional models into human-first systems of support, pathways, and equity.
Our Mission
Our mission is to protect and uplift young people and families by creating alternatives to punitive systems. We work to prevent incarceration, strengthen communities, and support pathways to stability, opportunity, and justice through education, workforce development, and community-led action.
Our Vision
Our vision is a society where young people are supported rather than criminalized, and where families and communities have access to the resources they need to thrive. Systems rooted in justice, dignity, and opportunity, where prevention, healing, and community-based solutions replace punishment.
